  • Information about GP IDeA-CTR’s mission to build infrastructure for clinical and translational research (CTR) and our path forward
  • CTR presentations and resources from across the network
  • Presentations about innovation in CTR and commercialization of innovative technologies and methodologies
  • Information about infographics and data visualization
  • A community perspectives on research panel
  • Networking opportunities
  • Informational breakout sessions

We will also feature a high-stakes CTR Superstar Competition during lunch on Wednesday, October 23, from 11:40 a.m. – 1:10 p.m., where a panel of distinguished judges will award $20,000 to a winning CTR pilot project pitch.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Potential attendees include those with interests in the growing field of Clinical and Translational Research (CTR). This includes researchers (spanning basic, translational and clinical work), university or collegiate educators, administrators, healthcare professionals (e.g., physicians, advanced practice providers and nurses), public health experts, government officials, and community members at large or from a variety of organizations including not-for-profits, faith-based institutions, employer groups, school systems, and other interested parties.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS

Attendees can select one of the following topics:

1) Building and Sustaining Research Teams

Techniques and strategies for developing effective, multidisciplinary clinical and translational research teams.

2) Surviving a Study Section/Accepting and Receiving Critique

This breakout will review the process of study section grant reviews, how critiques are communicated, and strategies to generate responsive revisions with resubmission.

3) Evidence-Based Intervention Repositories and Comparative Effectiveness Research

A key area in advancing dissemination and implementation science is the identification of relevant evidence-based interventions. This workshop will focus on identifying repositories of evidence-based intervention across a wide variety of health issues and provide examples that demonstrate the movement of research from T2 to T3/T4 in the translational spectrum. The second half of the workshop will focus on the design of comparative effectiveness trials to test competing evidence-based interventions.

4) Intelligent Algorithms in Medicine: It’s Not So Simple

Dr. Windle’s research in health information systems design and use focuses on efforts to optimize and standardize services for data capture and decision support. While the capabilities of AI and intelligence techniques hold promise, the application within healthcare systems poses unique challenges. This discussion will look at how these new technologies can improve healthcare research and practices.

5) Access and Use of EHR Data for CTR Research – CRANE (Clinical Research Analysis Environment)

Data captured and stored in the electronic health record represents fundamental observation data instrumental to multiple research objectives.  This presentation will review current capabilities of the CRANE data warehouse to support CTR research projects.  Examples of ongoing research efforts will be used for illustration purposes and discussion.  Partner involvement and access to CRANE will be reviewed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Identify the significance of commercialization of innovative technologies and methodologies in advancing CTR.
  2. Articulate how to effectively engage the community in research teams.
  3. Define steps to build and sustain a research team.
  4. Identify evidence-based intervention repositories and uses in comparative effectiveness research.
  5. Discuss techniques regarding infographics and data visualization to clearly represent CTR.
  6. Identify different paths to utilize innovation to advance CTR.
  7. Explain the process of a study section and methods to address reviewer critiques.
